23 Feb What REALTORS® Should Know About Wire Fraud What REALTORS® Should Know About Wire Fraud Wednesday, February 23, 2022 (1:30 PM to 3:30 PM) RASM South & Webinar, Sarasota, Florida Are You Unknowingly Putting Your Customer’s Money at Risk of Being Stolen? Details You're Registered! DescriptionLocation Wire fraud via email phishing has been a serious issue in real estate transactions for some time. There are several vulnerable targets: attorneys, mortgage lenders, title companies, buyers, sellers, and real estate agents. The perpetrator gains access to an email account through a phishing scheme like a fake Office 365 password reset request, a fake Amazon Prime request, or a phony email sign-in page. Smartphones are at risk, too. Realtors® are a favorite target because through on-line marketing, they give out a great deal of information about an upcoming transaction; they use relatively unsecure e-mail providers, such as Gmail or Yahoo; and because of the hectic pace of a real estate transaction, are not always vigilant in vetting incoming e-mails and texts which may look like they are coming from a known source but are really a fraudster’s way to capture sensitive data. Class registration will close at 2:00pm the day before class. A link will be sent shortly after.
